Sunday Six - It's Hot!

"Sunday Six!" is a game where Kelly asks us to have six questions answered. Remember, the idea is to post answers to the following six question, but the trick is to get your kids to answer them! If you don't have kids, use your imagination... Your pet, your neighbor, your elderly family member, your roommate, etc. Did you play? Let me and Kelly know so we can visit you. Today I was able to ask Sarah (SB - age 6 yrs) and Sydney (SK - age 3 yrs) the Sunday 6. I asked Sydney first so she was not influenced by her big sister's answers. Here they are:

1. What is hot weather?

SK: No, you talk to Sarah. That means you drink hot chocolate, right?

SB: summer weather

2. Do you think its been too hot?

SK: Yes (spoken very emphatically)

SB: Yes.

3. Why do you think the weather is so hot?

SK: That because when we go outside it's really hot.

SB: Because its summer.

4. What do you do to cool down in hot weather?

SK: Put on a nice cold jacket.

SB: I drink lots of water and I play in water.

5. Which is better - hot weather or cold weather?

SK: To drink some hot chocolate in hot weather.

SB: I like medium the best.

6. What does it mean to be in a heat wave?

SK: Be cold in the hot wave.

SB: I don't know.

I think Sydney is operating under the idea of mind over matter - if you believe it it will come.

Wednesday night, Sydney followed Sarah's footsteps (or tire track) and learned to ride her bike w/out training wheels. It only took Sarah 2 mos to learn, and Sydney 3 minutes.

Attached are the pictures of Sarah and Sydney riding bikes.

Up and Down

Today, Sydney was excited all day because her tumbling class was starting. I missed signing her up by 15 minutes for the first session.

Well, we arrived tonight only to discover that not enough kids signed up and tumbling was cancelled. I was quite frustrated (as was the woman running tumbling) because she wanted to call everyone and her boss insisted that they wait to make sure there were not some late minute arrivals.

Well, since we were out and Sarah and Sydney's bikes were in the back of the truck, we decided to ride bikes. For Sarah this means more practice without training wheels. Sarah really wants the training wheels back. She just doesn't understand how to balance herself.

Well tonight, she got it!! I was so proud of her (and so frustrated I was without my camera).

Then Sydney (who is 3.5 yrs and 3 years younger than Sarah) decided to give Sarah's bike a go. She managed to ride about 3 pedal turns without DH holding her. So, she now wants the training wheels taken off her bike.

And so it goes - my older cautious child being told it's time and my younger child saying "hey, I can do that!"

3. Can you feed the animals at the Zoo?

SK: No.

SB: Sometimes

4. What is your favorite animal at the Zoo?

SK: The Elephants

SB: Elephants

5. What does a Zoo Keeper do?

SK: It will be dark (she can be a bit literal).

SB: The animals get all alone.

Sorry I've not been around. I'm having a hard time finding energy to post. Work is draining me. But, things are changing a bit and I'm either dropping hours or changing jobs. (or both). I need to get out of my current situation.

I'll try to be better this week.

Normally I'm not a fan of waking at 4:30 in the morning - but this morning I was awakened by the most amazing thunderstorm ever. Even with my eyes closed, the lighting bathed the bedroom in light. Only this was not ordinary lighting, this was rapid fire lighting. At times, the sound of the thunder didn't even finish before the next sounded. Then, there were the times the thunder was so loud it shook my feet. I spent part of the storm with my eyes closed, part of it watching the lighting through the trees.

It was truly an amazing storm.

Part way through the storm, I stopped watching it's beauty and started wondering if this was what it was like to live in a war zone - watching the far off bombs wondering if they are getting closer or further away.

I also thought that it would be a bit of how one of the death eater attacks might be if I ever wrote about one. (I've started reading and writing Harry Potter fan fiction).

But, I'm glad I woke up as I don't know that I would have believed Nature could have created such a storm had I not seen it.

Two Out of Three Ain't Bad.

I want you.
I need you.
But there ain't no way I'm every going to love you.
But don't feel sad.
Cause two out of three ain't bad.

I heard this Meatloaf song driving to work this morning. I also heard it a few months ago. I remember when the song was first released thinking that it was so romantic - someone who didn't want you to feel sad just because they were unable to love you the way you wanted but still cared deeply. Ah, teenage angst years.

But, now that I'm grown up, I hate the message this song sends. Not so much because he is saying that we should accept a relationship that will never include deep love, but that many young girls will interpret (and probably have) that this is ok.

I have two girls. I hope that I can instill in them the pride in themselves that allows them to say "yes, this makes me sad but I deserve so much more." That - two without three is bad.

I also hope that I can help them understand that the lyrics in a love song are not to be taken verbatim.

Vacation pictures - attempt #2

The airplane!

Sydney was playing in the water - before the jellyfish sting (Sarah's sting).

My mom decided to do manicures with the girls.

This is my favorite picture. I looked outside to see the girls sitting on my parents front porch watching the sun set.

Thanks for peeking.

Sunday Six - Names (and vacation summary)

1. Why do people have names?

SK: Because that's what they do sometimes.

SB: So they can call you that.

2. Can boy names and girl names be the same?

SK: Yes.

SB: Yes, of course.

3. Who named you?

SK: S.Y.D.N.E.Y - (but WHO gave you your name) I don't know.

SB: Mommy

4. What is your best friend's name?

SK: Lenea

SB: Nicholas

5. Do you like your name?

SK: Yes.

SB: Yes, of course.

6. If you could have a different name, what would it be?

SK: Bommer

SB: Sydney

We had a good time on our vacation, in spite of the rain and not being able to do most of what I wanted. Mom asked me to come of with the list of what I wanted to do. She said we'd do half of it. Well, I made my list very small thinking that in 9 days we could manage the list: Seeing my grandmother, going to the zoo, going to my sister's, and eating crabs (they live in Maryland).

So, I saw my grandmother and my sister. Maybe next time I'll get to do the rest. The rain didn't help - nor the threat of rain.

The girls had a great time playing with their cousins - my two nephews. Sarah was also introduced, up close and personal, to a jelly fish. Thankfully we quickly learned that vinegar is a solution.

We went to the Air and Space Museum Annex near Dullas Airport where we saw the Space Shuttle. We also did the simulation ride. Sarah and Sydney were very interested in the launch last weekend as a result.

Pictures will have to wait. Blogger is being a pill.

Homeward Bound

I won't have a Sunday Six again this week. We have to leave for the airport.

We did have a nice visit. But, I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed. I'm also looking forward to not hearing "Mommy, I want to go home."

So, tomorrow I head on the airplane. Unfortunately, I have to pack quickly in the AM. I think most things are gathered together so it shouldn't take too long.

I will post pictures next week. I love the picture I took today.

I do leave you with a trivia question:

Which state has the most standing lighthouses? (no peeking via google, etc.)
